On Saturday, the 8th grade OJH Volleyball team competed in the PNG Tournament, and came away with the second-place win!
The Cats started off pool play against C.O. Wilson, and they split sets (25-17) (13-25). Leading in attacks for the match was Ava Josephson. The leading servers were Jocelyn Droddy and Teal Kibodeaux. Serve-receive was led by Peyton Vincent, who gave the Bobcats the win in the second set.
The next game was against Port Neches, and the Lady Cats went down in both sets (13-25) (24-26). Laila Agerton led the way with 11 total serves and four aces in the first set. Kinsley Moore added a riveting kill to ignite the loyal fans in the stands. The third game for the evening was against Hamshire Fannett. Madilynn Chance had a great showing behind the service line and with her backcourt presence. Ava Josephson celebrated her birthday a little early with a kill that left the Short Horns feeling dazed. The Bobcats split sets with them, as well (25-22) (20-25).
On to bracket play Saturday morning, and the Cats faced the number two seed from the other pool, Little Cypress. Karlie Traxler owned her new role as Middle, and she delivered attacks the Cubs could not return. The Bobcats took both sets (25-17) (25-13).
One game away from the Championship, and the Cats played the host, Port Neches. The Lady Bobcats stunned the Warriors in the first set with a 25-9 win. Taking charge in the backcourt was Peyton Vincent, who led in serve-receive and digs. Paxton Oldham and Zoey Harvey held their own and contributed vital passes. Teal Kibodeaux led in serves, totaling 16 for the match. Hannah Bisson proved to be a threat, with an impressive attacking game. Avery Seals and Ava Josephson teamed up for a thunderous block that was just enough motivation to take the Warriors down in the third set and seal a trip to the Championship (25-9) (14-25) (16-14).
The championship stage was set against C.O. Wilson. The first set was an all-out war, as both teams produced great volleyball. The Cats delivered an onslaught of attacks that built up to an exciting finish. In the end, their efforts were just not enough as the Bobcats fell (26-28) (19-25). This secured their second-place finish in the tournament!

Our Junior High Cross Country team competed in the Anahuac Invitational this past weekend. The Boys were game enough to take home the runner-up trophy in the team title. Notable highlights were Jaxon Agerton taking home the gold in a field of 80 runners. Shortly behind him was Mark Golemon making his cross country debut with a statement and a 5th place finish. Mason Bullion would also receive a medal for his 12th place finish.
We had a light crew this weekend but that didn't stop the young ladies from competing well. We would see two new bobcats make their debut for the cross country team. Aspen Babin would cross the line first for the Lady Bobcats in 26th place with a time of 17:31. Melissa Mendoza would come in next with a time of 19:39. These ladies competed very well this week and will make more improvements in the near future.
On Thursday, the OJH Bobcats took on the Woodville Eagles. The 7th grade game started in the rain, and sloppy gameplay and ball security did not allow the offense to get going all night long. Kaysen Click showed a flash of hope as he scored on a broken play with a 43-yard run. Defensively, the Bobcats were led by Zachary Ellis, Andrew Burt, and Click as they started to make their stand at the point of attack against Woodville. However, it was too little too late, and the Bobcats lost 20-6. The 8th grade game was a battle that came down to the final minutes. The offense took the opening drive down the field as Hunter Reeves and Gage Lucas ran around the edges for huge gains. Lucas scored the first touchdown from 17 yards out, and Reeves punched in the two-point conversion. Woodville answered right back as their line drove the Bobcats backward. The offense and defense adjusted in the second half but were never able to recapture the lead. The offensive line, made up of Devin Cook, Jacob Walters, Case Comeaux, Kolte Morgan, Grayson Rickenbrode, Gaven Reyes, and John Royer, battled the Eagles up and down the field which allowed Korbyn Smith to take over. Smith ran for close to 80 yards in the half, capping it with a touchdown to put the Bobcats within a score. Jaxon Agerton converted the two-point conversion with a quarterback sneak. The defense made play after play, and the Eagles answered which allowed them to keep the ball on key downs. The Bobcats came up short, 22-16, but are looking to bounce back next week against Buna as they open up district play on the road.

The OJH Lady Bobcats started off their District play with a sweep against the Kountze Lionettes!
The 7th grade B-team defeated the Lady Lionettes in two sets. It was a fast-paced team win with captain Gray Borel contributing four aces, Sara McFatter adding three aces, and Brooklyn Bishop getting a kill in the front row.
The 8th Grade B-team also defeated the Lionettes in two sets: (15-13),(15-6) Aspen Babin and Melissa Saucedo were the top servers of the night. Babin led the team with five aces. Maya Manning showed off her hitting abilities with a kill and an attack.
The 7th Grade A-team defeated the Lionettes in two sets, as well. The top servers for the evening included Carleigh Mouton, Zoe Carroll with three aces, Kylie Vanmarion and Ariana Wolf each with one ace, and Piper Pollet with a total of eight aces! Defending the back row from Kountze's tough serves were Rylee Ramierez, Maizey Jaynes, and Jordan Leibold. Together they were able to give the front row a chance to turn on the heat, with a kill from our very own Lakynn Granger. Alongside Granger, with two attacks from the front row, were Ainsley McAlpin and Presley Gilbeaux.
Closing out the night was the 8th grade A-team. The Lady Cats defeated the Lionettes in three sets: (20-25), (25-20), (15-1). Paxton Oldham, Madilynn Chance, Zoey Harvey, and Peyton Vincent deserve recognition for their consistency in the back row. Avery Seals and Ava Josephson had an energetic block to keep the Lionettes on their heels. Teal Kibodeaux closed out the third set with an impressive 12 straight points behind the service line.
The A-teams will participate in the PNG tournament this weekend and we would love to pack the stands in ORANGE!

On Tuesday, the OJH Bobcats hosted the Splendora Wildcats for three games to open their season.
The combined B-team started the evening with a very close game ending in a 12-12 stalemate. They were led offensively by Wyatt Clubb and Dawsen Revia. Clubb scored both touchdowns and totaled over 100 yards on the afternoon. Revia was under center and commanded the team by making key plays. On defense, the Bobcats were led by William Ayala and Keaton Betros. Ayala had several big hits and kept constant pressure on the opposing quarterback. Betros had an interception and several pass deflections that kept the Wildcats at bay, keeping Orangefield within striking distance.
The 7th grade A-team cruised to a 34-12 victory. The Bobcat defense set the tempo early with some devastating hits by Lawrence Steiner and Kaysen Click, forcing the Wildcats to turn the ball over on downs. Click took his first snap and jetted around the edge for a 25-yard touchdown. Kolston Robinson punched in the two-point conversion. For the rest of the night, Click took over the game scoring two more touchdowns and converting three more conversions. Steiner also returned a kick for 64 yards, using his speed to knife through the defense. Major Butler had several long runs, flashing his skills and converting a two-point conversion. Defensively, the Bobcats made several big plays. In the secondary, Kaleb Flory recovered a fumble which was jarred loose by Steiner. Zachary Ellis picked off two Wildcat passes, in addition to handling all kicking duties for the night.
Lastly, the 8th grade A-team looked to pick up where they left off last season. The Bobcats got on the board first as Case Comeaux drove his way in from 5 yards out. Gage Lucas would score the next touchdown, using his speed to get the edge with some key blocks from Comeaux and Hunter Reeves. Hunter Block punched in the two-point conversion on a 3-yard scamper. Lucas would go on to score another touchdown around the end with another two-point conversion by Block. The final touchdown was scored on a 45-yard run by Luke Erickson who sped down the sideline, made a jump cut, and coasted into the endzone. Jaxon Agerton would punch it in for two after that to deliver the knockout blow to the Wildcats. Defensively, Dacius Lytle, Kyran Morrow, Block, Erickson, Agerton, and Logan Anderson each took turns battling the air raid all night. New to the staff, Coach Connell, took over the linebacking core led by Smith, Reeves, Lucas, Devin Cook, Grayson Rickenbrode, and John Royer. This group handled the pressure and kept everything in front of them, making sacks when needed and applying pressure at the right times. The Bobcats won 30-14 in a great week one performance.
Next week, the Bobcats will be at home against Woodville for two games starting at 5:00 pm.
