Mrs. Stelly’s first grade class had a visitor from Lamar University. Miss Rosie is currently enrolled in an educator prep course at Lamar. She is required to observe a classroom and teach the Junior Achievement program. Today was her first JA lesson and the students loved it! It is a wonderful opportunity when we get to support future educators. Mrs. Stelly’s class is looking forward to her future lessons.
First graders have been learning about computational thinking in their technology rotation. It's a way to understand a problem by breaking it down into smaller parts and creating steps to solve it. Students used this skill in an unplugged coding activity. They made a path for a Halloween character to reach a cupcake, but had to avoiding spider webs!
Mrs. Abshire’s fifth grade science class is WIRED up learning about electrical energy and how it flows through conductors and closed circuits.
Tomorrow (Tuesday, October 24th)begins our Red Ribbon Week festivities with "Head to Toe Stay Drug-Free" Day. Students are encouraged to wear crazy hats and socks. Also, our canned food drive starts tomorrow with a class contest. The class that brings in the most canned pumpkins and/or sweet potatoes will win a prize.
Students in Ms. Shannon King's 5th grade ELAR classes put their adjective and descriptive writing skills to the test by composing spooky, scary Halloween stories! The kids loved the way they got to share their stories when they were surprised with the chance to read them in the dark "ghost-story" style! Happy Halloween!
First grade students celebrated the 50th day of school with a Sock Hop, a Drive-in Movie, Root Beer Floats, the Bunny Hop and counting to 50!
OISD Community Bond Election Meeting
Last week, thanks to Dow Chemical Company, Mrs. Angela King's homeroom class learned all about Silly Putty. They learned how it was discovered by Dr. Warrick who worked at Dow for more than three decades. Students got to play with the silly putty and wear their sunglasses they also received to the Homecoming Pep Rally.
The proposed bond will include these improvements for Orangefield Elementary School:
-Safety and security improvements
-New cafeteria with stage
-Additional classrooms

Tomorrow is Homecoming Game Day!!!Students are encouraged to wear as much orange as they can! Also, Project Graduation will be selling spirit ribbons tomorrow morning in the gym and the hallway by the cafeteria. (See pictures: small ribbons $1, big ribbons $5)
Third grade was introduced to Google Sheets today in Technology class. Students used rows and columns to color cell addresses. If followed correctly, they created a Frankenstein!
Pre-K has been learning about Transportation and Community Helpers. We would like to thank Walker Donnaud with Ironwood Trucking for allowing our little Bobcats to “drive” his dump truck, the local Firefighters for the fire safety lesson, and Mayor Larry Spears for sharing with us what’s it like to be a mayor.
