This past Thursday, the OJH Bobcats traveled to Kirbyville to try and capture a District title. The 7th grade group took on the Kirbyville Wildcats first. The Cats struggled to get things going early offensively. Major Butler, Kaysen Click, and Andrew Burt each had explosive plays down the sideline, picking up significant yardage. The defense was led by Burt, Click, and Easton Locke. Locke played one of his best games of the year with one interception and 11 tackles. The defense held Kirbyville close for as long as they could before the Wildcats pulled away in the third quarter, winning 38-0. The 8th grade squad took the field next and looked to clinch their second straight District Title. The Bobcats struck first, marching their way down the field behind solid running from Hunter Block, Hunter Reeves, and Korbyn "Butter" Smith. Jaxon Agerton snuck his way into the endzone for the first touchdown, which was followed up with an extra point by Andrew Rutledge. The Bobcats forced a three-and-out on defense and followed that possession by scoring on a 43-yard end-around from Reeves. That touchdown was followed up by an extra point from Kyran Morrow. The last touchdown was a beautiful pass from Agerton to John Royer in the closing minutes of the first half. Roc Slaughter stepped in to convert that extra point attempt. Gage Lucas ran hard all game, making would-be Wildcat defenders miss. The defense was led by Case Comeaux, Grayson Rickenbrode, Logan Anderson, Block, and Dacius Lytle. Block had two interceptions, one of which was nearly returned for a touchdown, but was unfortunately called back. Rickenbrode threw a gorgeous block to spring Hunter Block free up the sideline. Block also had a touchdown-saving tackle which forced a fumble that was recovered by Reeves to keep Kirbyville at bay. The Bobcats won 21-8, capturing the District Title in consecutive years. The Bobcats will be at home on Tuesday against East Chambers for their final game of the season.

Orangefield ISD is home to the hardest-working staff in Texas! Our faculty work tirelessly to provide a safe, effective learning environment for each and every student. We want to take the time to highlight one of our hardest workers: Mrs. Edwards. From decorating the halls, to leaving encouraging post-its for her peers, and making positive phone calls home, Mrs. Edwards never stops working. Thank you for your hard work for our kids and our community!

Last week, the OJH Bobcats took on the Hardin Hornets for Homecoming. The 7th grade team started the night off with a 48-14 victory over the Hornets. The offense had several standouts including Kaysen Click, Major Butler, Lawrence Steiner, Kolston Robinson, Mark Golemon, and Lexon Detwiler. Click led the pack, scoring two touchdowns and converting two two-point conversions. Steiner ran for one score and also returned a kick for a touchdown. Butler scored a touchdown on a fifty-plus yard pass from Click. Robinson took a toss around the edge and ran through two would-be tacklers on his way into the end zone. Golemon took his first-ever handoff to the house, scoring from 65 yards out in an amazing display of speed. Detwiler converted his two-point conversion on a pass from Click from 21 yards out. Defensively, Zachary Ellis had an interception and several knockdowns. For the third consecutive week, Andrew Burt led the team in tackles, tallying 11 this week. The 8th grade group had quite a show to follow but stepped up to the challenge, winning 35-0. This game turned out to be a special teams showcase as Dacius Lytle started things off by returning a punt for 34 yards and his first touchdown of the season. Gage Lucas immediately took the ball around the edge and converted the two-point conversion, going in untouched. Hunter Block would show off his great vision, weaving in and out of traffic and then cutting back to score from 57 yards out. Roc Slaughter would come on to convert the extra point attempt. Lucas scored his weekly touchdown blazing down the sideline on a jet sweep that left no defender close to him. Andrew Rutledge entered the game and converted the extra point attempt. Korbyn “Butter” Smith made a trip to the end zone by barreling his way through would-be tacklers. Kyran Morrow then entered and converted the extra point attempt. Hunter Reeves would not be denied on an impressive run, as he went around the edge and scored the final touchdown of the game from 42 yards out. A special shout-out goes to Coach Wilbur and Coach Coulter for prepping the three kickers as each of them converted their extra points. On defense, Luke Erickson showed off his ball-hawking skills intercepting a pass and nearly returning it all the way. Case Comeaux, Kipp Watkins, and John Royer were in the Hornet backfield all night long with several sacks and tackles for loss.
