Making Homecoming mums and garters is an important part of the floral design industry, so Mrs. Looney's 8th grade Principles of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources classes got to demonstrate their abilities by making a 10-foot tall Homecoming Mum! The "Mega Mum" was made using cardboard, butcher paper, and coffee filters and took over 11 hours to complete!

It's Homecoming Week!

Last night, the OJH Bobcats made the trip to Tarkington to take on the Longhorns.
The 7th grade took the field first, and they came out on fire! The offense was led by Kaysen Click, who scored a pair of rushing touchdowns and converted a two-point conversion. Click also made a beautiful 35-yard pass that was caught by Major Butler to give the Bobcats fantastic field position. Andrew Burt shrugged off one tackler and took it to the house for a 41-yard touchdown. The defense was led by Lawrence Steiner and Dawsen Revia who each led the way with a handful of tackles. The Cats took the win, 20-6!
The 8th grade game was cut short due to an unfortunate injury of a Tarkington Longhorn player. The game ended with the Bobcats leading 15-0. In the short time the Bobcats were on the field, Hunter Reeves showed off his arm, airing it out for over 100 yards. Reeves connected with Logan Anderson for 36 yards and Jaxon Agerton for a 44-yard touchdown. Gage Lucas strolled around the end for another touchdown and immediately converted the two-point conversion. Kyran Morrow lined up the first kick of his career and split the uprights down the middle for the extra point. The defense pressured the quarterback all night long, with Kip Watkins forcing bad snap after bad snap. Grayson Rickenbrode recovered one of those fumbled snaps and had several sacks on the night. Case Comeaux also made his presence felt with a huge sack that stalled the defense on one of the opening drives.
Next week, the Bobcats will be hosting the Hardin Hornets for Homecoming.

Please see the attachment for homecoming treat boxes.

OJH students in Mrs. Renner's class visited the Port Arthur Fire Department and Museum of the Gulf Coast last Friday. The students learned about fire safety, took a tour of the fire department, and got to see and touch the equipment used to fight fires. The students enjoyed exploring the inside and outside of the fire trucks, as well as handling a fire hose.
From there, they went to the Museum of the Gulf Coast. They gained valuable information about the origin of the oil industry in Southeast Texas, as well as the local men and women who developed the industry we have today. They also learned about local individuals who helped America secure victory in World War II, and local talent who became industry leaders in music, art, sports, television, photography, and movies.

Last Thursday, the OJH Bobcats took on the Anahuac Panthers at home.
The 7th graders battled to the very end, but they were unable to come back from the few mistakes they made on special teams. Major Butler led the Bobcats on offense, running for three touchdowns and totaling over 40 yards receiving. Kaysen Click converted two two-point conversions and Dawsen Revia converted the other. Click also had a huge game on defense, with a big interception and pass deflection late in the game that kept the Cats within striking distance. The Cats came up short with a 28-24 loss.
The 8th graders hit the gas from the very beginning! Hunter Block took his first hand off to the house for a 60-yard touchdown. Block would end up scoring another touchdown and running for 130 yards on the night. Korbyn "Butter" Smith powered his way into the endzone to contribute another touchdown. Gage Lucas jetted around the edge for his weekly touchdown, and Jaxon Agerton converted three two-point conversions on quarterback sneaks. The defense also had an outstanding night. Hunter Reeves, Case Comeaux, and John Royer each recovered fumbles as the Bobcats kept jarring the ball loose. The Bobcats cruised to a 30-14 victory over the Panthers, keeping their District Championship hopes alive.
The Bobcats travel to Tarkington on Thursday to take on the Longhorns.
