Tuesday, the OJH Bobcats finished their season in Buna winning both A team games. The 7th graders finished off their undefeated season with the 8th graders winning a nail biter. The 7th grade stepped on the gas early as Porter Oldham connected with Lexon Detwiler on the opening play for a 55 yard touchdown. Oldham had himself a night through the air as he connected with Landon Agerton on a go route for a 45 yard touchdown and on a screen for another 35 yard tuddy. His last ball was caught by Traeson Addison for 2 pt conversion. Agerton ran two more touchdowns in as he showed no mercy running over the Cougars on his way to the endzone. He also converted three more 2 point conversions to help the Cats win 44-14 clinching the District Championship. Agerton also showed out on defense as Buna refused to protect the ball as he stripped it several times making it easy for the Bobcats. Mason Davidson broke free of the line crushing the quarterback popping the ball lose on one of their closing drives. Detwiler had a night on both sides of the ball as he made several key tackles and caused havoc in the Cougar backfield. This group improved every week and are now looking forward to a good offseason and repeating as next years champions. The 8th grade took on a much improved Buna team from last year only winning 22-20. Running the new slot-t offense, the size of the Cougars gave the Bobcats fits until Coach Legate and Coach “Snake” Connell found a crack in the armor. Kaysen Click carried the ball an insane amount of times finally breaking through for a touchdown. He also connected with one of his favorite receivers Major Butler several times with one of them leading to a touchdown and then a 2 point conversion. Click also stripped a ball from the Buna running back then streaking down the sideline before anyone knew what had happened. Keaton Leonard had himself a night disrupting the quarterback timing, keeping the Cougars from mounting a comeback. In the closing seconds “Snake” made another brilliant call recognizing the signals from the previous play and dialing up a blitz allowing the Bobcats to make a goal line stand allowing the Cats to win by 2. This group had a great season and will slide into basketball in a few weeks. Congratulations to all the players on a great season as they learned a new offense and defense bringing it all together for two great seasons.

Monday, the B team looked to finish out their season on a high note taking on the Deweyville Pirates for their homecoming. The game started off a little rough as the group didn’t have ample time to prepare for the slot-t offense. Giving up an early touchdown the Bobcats marched down the field under the tutelage of a young upcoming offensive mind known as Remi. Coach Connell was pulling out all the stops as they had their best offensive performance of the year. Rhys Fenner bowled his way over defenders and flashed his speed for a 54 yard touchdown to get the Cats on the board. Logan Merriman later connected with Fenner for a 44 yard touchdown pass to cut the lead and keep it close. Ryker Robert’s head topped the Pirate linebacker making a beautiful grab on a long 4th dome play. Merriman also later connected with Dawson Revia on a speed out that led to a big chunk of yards that moved the chains on yet another crucial 4th down play. Revia led the defense controlling the secondary from the safety spot and came away with a huge interception deep in the Pirate’s red zone. These boys battled hard but came up short as the early deficit was just too much to overcome losing 26-12. This group had a great season and improved each and every week as their hard work was truly paying off.

Last Thursday the OJH Bobcats took on Mauriceville for 2 games. Both groups coming out victorious with 7th grade continuing their undefeated streak. Landon Agerton was in beast mode yet again as he scored 3 more touchdowns for the mighty fighting Bobcats. Traeson Addison caught a 2 point conversion pass from Porter Oldham extending the lead early on. And Larsen Richard ran another one in knifing his way through the Panther defense. Kreed Spears, Connor Haley, and Lexon Detwiler went to work on the line manhandling Mauriceville making it easy for Agerton and Richard to do their thing. Defense gave up a late touchdown with seconds winding down but the game was already over at that point as the Bobcats won 26-6. This group remains undefeated with 2 games left on the schedule. The 8th graders came out hot as Kaysen Click scored 2 touchdowns early but later went down with injury. The offense didn’t skip a beat as Major Butler stepped up in a big way and scored 2 touchdowns of his own and leading the Bobcats to a 35-0 victory. Lawrence Steiner also flashed his speed around the edge for a 44 yard scamper leaving everyone in the dust. Lawrence Steiner lined up and kicked the years first extra point and put it straight through the uprights. Local Buna legend Remington Connell (@remgolfs ) who made a name for himself by being featured quite often in the Buna Beacon made sure the secondary was on point and shut out the Panthers. Coach Babin made brilliant calls as he rolled his lineman in keeping them fresh and making sure everyone got in on the tackling onslaught. Coach Legate sent the pressure off the edge all night making sure Mauriceville didn’t have a chance to move the ball. Coach Haynes also called a good game scoring 35 points. Both of these groups will play East Chambers tomorrow looking to finish the year strong.
