Monday, the B team looked to finish out their season on a high note taking on the Deweyville Pirates for their homecoming.
The game started off a little rough as the group didn’t have ample time to prepare for the slot-t offense. Giving up an early touchdown the Bobcats marched down the field under the tutelage of a young upcoming offensive mind known as Remi. Coach Connell was pulling out all the stops as they had their best offensive performance of the year. Rhys Fenner bowled his way over defenders and flashed his speed for a 54 yard touchdown to get the Cats on the board. Logan Merriman later connected with Fenner for a 44 yard touchdown pass to cut the lead and keep it close. Ryker Robert’s head topped the Pirate linebacker making a beautiful grab on a long 4th dome play. Merriman also later connected with Dawson Revia on a speed out that led to a big chunk of yards that moved the chains on yet another crucial 4th down play. Revia led the defense controlling the secondary from the safety spot and came away with a huge interception deep in the Pirate’s red zone. These boys battled hard but came up short as the early deficit was just too much to overcome losing 26-12.
This group had a great season and improved each and every week as their hard work was truly paying off.

Today, OJH students in Ms. Oliver’s class discussed forces. To introduce the concepts of gravity, friction, and applied forces, students held a friendly competition to see who could create the tallest card tower.

OJH's 8th Grade Art used recycled newspaper to create paper-mache masks and sculptures. Students learned how to create a mold or armature, attach additives, paper-mache, and paint their creations. The masks were finished in time for Halloween.

Over the past few weeks, OJH StuCo painted Halloween-themed OFAM Rocks. The rocks were hidden around the school throughout the day for their peers to find, keep, or rehide. Over 80 rocks were completed!

Congratulations to the 2nd Six Weeks Orangefield Junior High Brightest Bobcats! These students are selected on two criteria: they give great effort in all that they do, and they have a fantastic attitude each day. 6th Grade: Zoe Jeanis, 7th Grade: Roselyn Perez Pina, 8th Grade: Carleigh Mouton.

Thank you Kylie for coming to school every day ready to lead and learn!

Orangefield Junior High is home to the hardest-working staff in Texas! Our faculty work tirelessly to provide a safe, effective learning environment for each and every student. Many of our faculty received nominations for this spotlight, but we want to take the time to specifically highlight one of our hardest workers: Sharee Stewart. Mrs. Stewart works diligently in our cafe. She works hard to make sure our students and staff stay well fed! She is always kind and looking for unique ways to make our campus stand out. Thank you Mrs. Stewart for your continued hard work!

Last Thursday the OJH Bobcats took on Mauriceville for 2 games. Both groups coming out victorious with 7th grade continuing their undefeated streak.
Landon Agerton was in beast mode yet again as he scored 3 more touchdowns for the mighty fighting Bobcats. Traeson Addison caught a 2 point conversion pass from Porter Oldham extending the lead early on. And Larsen Richard ran another one in knifing his way through the Panther defense. Kreed Spears, Connor Haley, and Lexon Detwiler went to work on the line manhandling Mauriceville making it easy for Agerton and Richard to do their thing. Defense gave up a late touchdown with seconds winding down but the game was already over at that point as the Bobcats won 26-6. This group remains undefeated with 2 games left on the schedule.
The 8th graders came out hot as Kaysen Click scored 2 touchdowns early but later went down with injury. The offense didn’t skip a beat as Major Butler stepped up in a big way and scored 2 touchdowns of his own and leading the Bobcats to a 35-0 victory. Lawrence Steiner also flashed his speed around the edge for a 44 yard scamper leaving everyone in the dust. Lawrence Steiner lined up and kicked the years first extra point and put it straight through the uprights. Local Buna legend Remington Connell (@remgolfs ) who made a name for himself by being featured quite often in the Buna Beacon made sure the secondary was on point and shut out the Panthers. Coach Babin made brilliant calls as he rolled his lineman in keeping them fresh and making sure everyone got in on the tackling onslaught. Coach Legate sent the pressure off the edge all night making sure Mauriceville didn’t have a chance to move the ball. Coach Haynes also called a good game scoring 35 points.
Both of these groups will play East Chambers tomorrow looking to finish the year strong.

Tuesday the OJH Bobcats were in a good old fashioned cat fight with St. Anne’s. The Wildcats came away victorious in a close one winning 14-6, but not before the Bobcats gave them all they could handle.
The “Colonel” coach Connell took the helm this game calling the offense for the Bobcats. He dialed up some trickeration having Orangefield looking like a young UTEP squad lining up with 5 wide. Rhys Fenner took advantage of this masterful play calling, scoring the lone touchdown for the Bobcats running through the Wildcat defenders. Damian Rodriguez made a big play near the goal line with an interception keeping St. Anne’s kerfuffled on the sidelines. Jax Pietz went to work on the line stonewalling everyone and making plays all over the field. Logan Merriman almost tied up the game late on a deep ball to Rodriguez but just weren’t able to connect for the score. This group fought hard till the end but came up just short.
Our 7th and 8th grade teams will battle Mauriceville tonight at home starting at 5:00pm
